FORRME’s recently completed scheme at Lidl Magherafelt has won a Prestige Access Award from the William Keown Trust. The works involved the demolition of an existing Lidl supermarket and its replacement with a new modern company concept store, together with associated site development works. A modern appearance, pioneering technology and a customer-oriented store space and service area have created a completely new shopping experience for Lidl customers in Magherafelt.
The William Keown Trust was set up to promote the dignity of people living with disabilities. The judges for the Prestige Access Awards looked for innovation which went beyond Building control standards in design and introduced SMART technology. On Lidl Magherafelt, the judges were highly impressed with the provision of ample disabled parking bays, wheelchair trolleys, level access through electric doors, positioning of tea/coffee facilities, DDA-compliant toilet & shower room, aisle widths and refuge points. Furthermore, Autism Aware Quiet Evenings were a welcome feature, alongside the warm welcome extended to shoppers with sign impairments who are assisted by guide dogs. The judges commented “This makes the store stand out in its quest to make the shopping experience ‘inclusive for all”.
